Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

This December 23 marks the arrival of Genshin Impact update 1.2. With it comes a lot of new features: a new area, the Dosdragon Mountains, new rewards (especially with the Permafrost Tree) and a whole bunch of collectibles with purple agates, which we have already listed for you.

But of course, this set revolves around a new act. This new event, similar to the Fainting Stars but more massive, is called Chalk and Dragon. It will allow you to follow a piece of history in the company of Albedo and above all, to discover the Dosdragons Mountains. We tell you everything you need to know.

Summary

Event duration

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

Like the Vanishing Stars event, โ€œChalk and Dragonโ€ will take place over several days. It is divided into four acts, which will be unlocked over the days, with specific quests and actions.

  • Act I : Available on December 23 as soon as version 1.2 is installed
  • Act II : Available on December 25 after completing the quest "The Antedivine".
  • Act III : Available on December 28 after completing the โ€œThief in the Mistโ€ quest.
  • Act IV : Available on December 31 after completing the โ€œUnexpected Guestsโ€ quest.

The event will end on January 05, 2021 at 4 a.m.. The shop, which we will see below, will close its doors a little later, on January 12 at the same time.

How do I participate in the Chalk and Dragon event?

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

Before you can jump into this new event, you will need to meet several conditions. You will first need to have finished the Archon Prologue โ€“ Act 2 quest: โ€œFor a future without tearsโ€, and be at adventure level 20 minimum, which should be the case if you have completed this quest.

Once that's done, you'll also need to complete Albedo's questline, "Princeps Cretaceous." Once this is done, a quest will trigger and ask you to go see Sucrose at the adventurer camp near the new area.

Act I - Croc suppurant

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

For this first quest, Sucrose will ask you to spy on his mentor to see what he is up to. Since subtlety is not the first quality of our main character, Albedo will ask you to perform a mission for him instead, which consists of trying out a new weapon, supposedly cursed.

What is the Festering Fang one-handed sword worth?

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

After watching the cutscene, you will automatically get the Festering Fang one-handed sword.

This sword has the following ability:

  • insatiable thirst : Increases elemental skill damage by 16% and critical rate by 6% (refining rank 1).

A relatively useful ability, which is coupled with temporary skills during the event. Indeed, by completing the challenges of the different acts, the sword will be entitled to a temporary effect, such as being less affected by the Great Cold if it is equipped, which is very useful for exploring the new area. Note that these effects will disappear at the end of the event, apart from Insatiable Thirst.

You can easily improve this weapon throughout the duration of the event, since it benefits from a 1.5x experience boost. As for elevation materials, some will be returned to you by completing the challenges offered by the event.

What are the challenges of the Festering Fang weapon in Act I?

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

For Act I, you'll need to complete a series of challenges that will unlock a new temporary skill for the weapon. Here is the list of challenges and rewards:

  • Collect 60 Frost Fragments : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 120 Frost Fragments : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 30 Frost Crystals : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 60 Frost Fragments : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Empower Festering Fang to level 20 : 3 Lion Fang Knight Shackles + 3 Heavy Horns + 2 New Recruit Insignia
  • Empower Festering Fang to level 40 : 3 Lion's Fang Knight's Chains + 12 Heavy Horns + 8 New Recruit Insignias

Frost Crystals and Fragments are obtained by killing Mountain enemies. You will therefore note that by completing these challenges, you will obtain a kind of reimbursement for having reinforced the weapon. Do not hesitate to take advantage of it if you have the necessary materials.

Act II - The Fortune Teller

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

To start this event, you will need to go to Albedo's camp to talk to him. He will then ask you again to test the Festering Fang on some monsters.

Go to the indicated location to face a wave of enemies, with a clash against Fatui soldiers and other monsters that will not arrive later. You will then unlock Field Trials.

For these special challenges, you will have to systematically protect pillars of heat against successive waves of enemies. Most of these challenges are found in the northern Dosdragon Mountains area, and work much like energy line battles, except that these challenges don't require resin.

You can therefore perform as many as you want in order to collectiridescent essence, which you can use in the event store.

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

We can only strongly advise you to do as many of these challenges as possible, around twenty, in order to be able to buy everything in the shop, in particular the Infected Dragon Marrow which will be used to refine the Festering Fang.

What are the challenges of the Act II Festering Fang weapon?

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

For Act II, you will once again need to complete challenges that will unlock a new temporary skill for the Festering Fang. Note that you do not have to have completed all of the Act I challenges to complete the Act II challenges:

  • Refine Festering Fang to Rank 2 : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 600 Iridescent Essences in total : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 1 Iridescent Essences in total : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Complete the "Field Trial" challenge 8 times : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Complete the โ€œField Trialโ€ challenge 16 times: 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Complete the "Field Trial" challenge 5 times with no Ruins Brazers disabled: 30 first-time gems and 20 delays.

Act III โ€“ Thief in the Mist

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

This new act called Thief in the mist is available from this Monday 28 December when the servers are reset, so 5 a.m. in France. To begin the act and collect the rewards, you will first need to complete a quest. For that, have a look albedo who discusses with Cyrus, at the entrance to the Dosdragon Mountains, the location being indicated on your map.

The quest is relatively directive. After being attacked by Brutocollinus, Albedo will ask you to retrieve an item. You will first have to track the enemy by following the footsteps in the snow. Then use an Anemo Wind Field and follow the path until you come to a camp. Once done, defeat the opponents, collect the object and talk to Albedo again in his camp to complete the quest.

Dragon Pilgrimage

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

This time it's not just about overcoming different waves in one place. You will have to activate a challenge stone and follow a so-called pilgrimage: you have to bring a fire fairy from point A to point B, which protects you as you pass through the Great Cold, and chain 3 waves of enemies following the path. Note that a bonus is granted during the sequence, such as a movement speed boost.

You are therefore no longer static, but the principle remains the same: overcome a certain number of enemies while bringing the fairy back to the indicated point. This will allow you to collect Burning Essence, the new currency for this act, which can still be exchanged in the event shop.

The challenges of Act III Thief in the Mist

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

Who says new act, says new batch of challenges. Again, this gives access to a new tab in the shop, the rewards of which are listed below. Just like the previous acts, you don't need to have completed the challenges that have not yet been finalized to do these. However, it is still possible to do it again if you are in the rush.

  • Refine Festering Fang to Rank 3 : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 600 Burning Essence in total : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Collect 1800 Burning Essence in total : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Complete the "Draconic Pilgrimage" challenge 8 times : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Complete the "Draconic Pilgrimage" challenge 16 times : 30 first-gems and 20 delays
  • Complete the "Draconic Pilgrimage" challenge 5 times without the effects of the Great Freezing exceeding 20% : 30 first-gems and 20 delays

For this last line, nothing very complicated, stay close to the Fairy so as not to see the bar grow.

Act IV โ€“ Unexpected Guests

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

This Thursday, December 31 marks the arrival of the 4th and final act of the Craie & Dragon event. This one is called Unexpected Guests and will close the event while bringing its share of rewards. As always, before starting the challenges and harvesting Miracle Essence, you will have a quest to complete.

This begins by going to get Albedo, directly in his camp. Unfortunately this one is not there but Sucrose will be there. You will then follow her for different stages: first, a fight against blobs. Then, you will be attacked by Fatui. Eventually, you will have to face a Frozen Tree, the ultimate threat of this event and which will also be your challenge to collect the essence.

Miracle glacial

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

As with each act, you will then have a phase where you have to chain the challenges. This time, it's tough: you have to overcome a Resurrected Frozen Tree and he is tough. For this, you can do it either in Solo or in Co-op. You can use matchmaking or do it with friends. Of course, with a good group, it's always easier, but you can very well do it solo.

Of course, before starting, make sure you have a suitable group. With a world level that affects the boss, it can get complicated. So consider having a party made up of Pyro members, such as Bennett, Diluc, or Xiangling. Once that's done, head into battle.

The boss fights in several phases. The first will ask to eliminate the blobs that appear to collect crystals. With each crystal recovered, destroy one of the blocks of ice that protect the Tree. Once all three are broken, you will be able to fight the boss. It plays out just like the Frozen Tree you know in Mondstadt, except it's more powerful and has a phase with a really bad AoE. Remember to use the shield available.

The challenges of Act IV Unexpected Guests

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

With this final act comes new challenges to complete in order to leave with a full load of primos:

  • Refine Festering Fang to Rank 5
  • Collect 600 Miracle Essence in total
  • Complete the "Icy Miracle" challenge 10 times
  • Complete the "Icy Miracle" challenge 15 times
  • Touch the Frozen Tree 10 times using Blood Crystals in the "Frozen Miracle" challenge
  • Defeat the Risen Frozen Tree at your Lv. crowded and with more than 300 sec. remaining

As always, you left with 30 first-gems and 20 delays for each successful challenge line.

Shop

Chalk and Dragon โ€“ Genshin Impact

With the event, there is a shop where you can exchange your duly acquired stones. This is done over several days, with the availability indicated according to the piece of the event. To acquire these stones, it will be necessary to complete several challenges that will be made available in the various acts of the event. We list all the purchases available in store, accessible via the compass.
