Animal Crossing New Horizons offers a system of mimics (similar to emotes in other games) to give a little life to your photos or your interactions with other players locally or online. Since they are not usable from the start, here is an article to explain how to get emotes and how to use them.

Unfortunately, we get the facial expressions totally randomly. However the process is always the same, it's always one of your neighbors who will come to you as you walk around your island. If you answer when he tries to talk to you, he will teach you a new expression. The first time, you will even have four mimics at once as well as the little tutorial on how to use them.

How to use mimics in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

When you have your first four mimics, the game finally lets you use the ZR slice button which is used to open the mimics menu. You have quick access to your eight favorite mimics. You can select one with the Left Stick and then press the A Button to start that emote.

In this same menu, the X button is used to remove or assign a mimic in the favorites. And you can also press the Y button to see all of your facial expressions.
