Animal Crossing New Horizons has a crafting system but our island is a little too limited in its number of materials per day. If you urgently need nuggets or bamboo, we therefore recommend that you use a Nook Miles Ticket to loot a mystery island. We have therefore prepared this little guide for you which explains how they work but also some tips for making the most of them.

What is a mystery island?

A Mystery Island is an island designed for researching materials. It seems to be randomly generated and no basic principle seems common to all the islands which can vary in size, in resources offered or in topography. It is therefore possible that certain parts of the island are only accessible if you have the pole and/or the ladder. Some islands may also have rare materials such as bamboo or other fruits than those in your town.

The Mystery Island also has a chance of containing an Overboard Bottle, Fossil, or even an Inviteable Animal if your island is accepting new inhabitants at this time. If your tools break, there is always a workbench to craft something to replace them with. And if you haven't had time to get the materials, Rodrigue, the pilot who brought you there, can sell you rudimentary tools for 100 Nook Miles.

Can we return to a mystery island?

If Rodrigue can sell you tools, it's because the departure is final. So there's no way to quickly return home to get tools or crafting stuff. This also means that anything that isn't in your inventory by means of restarting will disappear. We therefore recommend that you empty your pockets as much as possible before coming (with the exception of tools of course) but also to wait at least for the first inventory improvement before visiting the mystery islands.

How do I get to the Mystery Islands?

The first Nook Miles Ticket is free and awaits you at the Airport counter from the second day. For others, you will have to go to the Nook Stop terminal at the residents' office and then choose the option "Exchange Nook miles". There you can buy the Nook Miles Ticket for 2 miles. The tickets are put in your inventory so be careful not to forget them if you have stored them between your purchase and the moment you want to leave.

With a ticket in hand, you can speak to Morris at the Airport. You have to tell him "I want to travel" then "Ticket Miles Nook" (option that only appears if you have a ticket on you) to be able to take off to a mystery island. Once there, harvest what you want then go back to see Rodrigue to tell him “I want to go back”.

Are there any special bugs or fish on the Mystery Islands?

For the moment, we have never seen the presence of species reserved for the mystery islands of Animal Crossing New Horizons. However, it seems to us that the appearance of rare fish is more frequent there. In addition, some islands may offer a larger pond than yours, which also makes fishing in this type of water point easier. If you have room left in the inventory before the return, do not hesitate to fish a little to make the most of the trip.

What happens if you get knocked out? on a mystery island?

Dangerous insects in Animal Crossing New Horizons, such as wasps and tarantulas can of course be found on a mystery island. They behave the same as usual and can therefore attack you. Fortunately in this case you do not reappear in front of your house in case of fainting but in front of Rodrigo who will let you resume your exploration after your awakening.

Are there special mystery islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons?

Yes, some mystery islands in Animal Crossing New Horizons have a particular concept. Some report, for example, the existence of an island whose specialty is the appearance of tarantulas. Much less dangerous, for example, we crossed an island which contained only rocks giving bells instead of materials. Impossible to say how it happens, just take advantage of your luck when you come across a special mystery island.
